Within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park, andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp is a smaller and more intimate sibling to the adjacent Ngala Safari Lodge, with nine tented suites positioned under the shade of large Jackalberry and Marula trees in a configuration that keeps the accommodation close to the ground and the bush experience correspondingly direct. The tented camp format — canvas walls, wooden decks above the river bank, the sounds of the bush unmediated by solid construction — provides a qualitatively different relationship with the Timbavati ecosystem from a lodge built of permanent materials, and the specific acoustic and atmospheric intimacy of sleeping under canvas in a working African wildlife area is a quality that many returning guests specifically seek in preference to the more sheltered conditions of a conventional lodge room.

The game drive and walking safari programme is identical in quality to that of the adjacent Ngala Lodge, with access to the same traversal areas within Kruger and the same level of experienced ranger and tracker support. The camp’s smaller guest count gives the game drive programme a greater degree of flexibility and individual attention, and the evening meal in the boma by the river has a particular atmosphere in the smaller camp’s more intimate social setting. The Timbavati’s lion prides and the seasonal presence of the white lion genetic line in this section of the reserve are consistent focuses of the guiding team’s tracking programme.

andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp’s conservation contribution mirrors the broader Ngala conservation model within the Timbavati, with the andBeyond Africa Foundation’s community and wildlife programmes operating across the full extent of the reserve regardless of which camp a guest is staying in.
