Deep in the Cardamom Mountains of southwestern Cambodia in a stretch of primary rainforest accessible only by zipline from the road above, Shinta Mani Wild occupies a position in one of Southeast Asia’s most significant remaining areas of intact lowland rainforest, where the Cardamom biodiversity corridor — whose conservation importance has been recognised by WWF as one of the world’s 200 most significant ecological regions — supports populations of sun bear, clouded leopard, Asian elephant, and a remarkable diversity of endemic birds in a forest that has been partially protected through a conservation partnership between the Cardamom Rainforest Landscape programme and the Cambodian government. The 15 tented camp suites are designed by Bill Bensley in his signature theatrical style, with waterfall showers, suspended bridge access, and the Cardamom forest’s visual drama amplified through the camp’s architecture of rope, steel, and canvas into an environment of deliberate adventure glamour.

Activities at Shinta Mani Wild centre on the rainforest environment and the conservation mission: guided walks with the camp’s ranger team trained by Wildlife Alliance through the primary forest, swimming in the natural pools of the Tatai River below the camp, kayaking through the river’s jungle corridor, and participating in the camp’s anti-poaching ranger operations — which guests can join as observers on forest patrol with the Wildlife Alliance rangers who maintain the conservation boundary around the camp’s concession. The kitchen’s menus draw on Cambodian culinary traditions with produce sourced from the farming communities on the forest’s edge.

Shinta Mani Wild’s conservation funding model is among the most directly expressed in the luxury travel industry: a fixed conservation fee is included in the room rate and allocated directly to the Wildlife Alliance’s ranger deployment in the surrounding forest, making the financial connection between each night’s stay and the specific anti-poaching operations protecting the Cardamom’s biodiversity completely transparent to guests whose visit funds it.
