Positioned at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong rivers where Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos converge, Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle is the only tented camp in the Four Seasons portfolio and one of the most geographically distinctive small properties in Southeast Asia. Designed by Bill Bensley in the spirit of nineteenth-century expedition camps, the fifteen suites are built on platforms above the bamboo forest, each with a private deck facing the rivers and a wooden hot tub oriented towards the mountains of Laos. Arrival is by traditional long-tail boat along the Ruak River, an approach that separates the camp from ordinary travel logistics before a guest has even checked in.

The camp’s partnership with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation gives the experience its defining character: rescued elephants live on the grounds, and guests can trek through the jungle with trained mahouts, observe morning bathing rituals at the river, and contribute directly to the foundation’s welfare programme. More than thirty activities span river adventures, border-town excursions into Myanmar, and cultural walks with hilltribe communities. Dining at Nong Yao spans Thai, Laotian, and Burmese cuisine under a thatched riverside pavilion.

The camp’s all-inclusive structure reflects the remoteness of its setting and the responsibility required to operate within a landscape of ecological and cultural sensitivity. The camp purchases replacement crops from local farmers, supports educational scholarships for hilltribe children, and maintains a silkworm farm whose scarves fund further elephant conservation work — commitments that run considerably deeper than the usual resort philanthropy.
