Singita Explore is a mobile tented camp that moves seasonally through the Singita Grumeti concession in the western Serengeti, offering a different quality of wilderness immersion from the fixed camps through its position at specific points in the landscape rather than in permanent facilities designed for year-round use. The eight tented camps are set directly on the ground with sleeping platforms oriented to the surrounding terrain, and the experience of waking in a canvas tent as the sounds of the Serengeti begin at first light is qualitatively different from waking in a stone or brick building, however beautiful. The camp’s movement through the concession follows the wildlife patterns and the seasonal availability of specific habitats, with the current camp position typically corresponding to the most productive game area of the moment.

Walking safaris are the primary activity at Explore, with the camp’s size and mobility specifically designed to support multi-day foot journeys through the concession under the guidance of Singita’s most experienced walking rangers. The combination of a fixed base camp with extended daily walks allows guests to cover considerable distances in the landscape while returning each evening to the comfort of the tented camp and the evening meal programme. The mobile kitchen team accompanies the operation, maintaining the quality of cooking expected of a Singita property in a camp that has no fixed facilities.

Singita Explore’s mobile model is an expression of Singita’s broader commitment to wildlife and landscape as the primary purpose of the guest experience. The camp’s willingness to move, to accept the logistical complexity of a non-permanent operation, and to build its entire proposition around the behaviour of wild animals rather than the convenience of a fixed location reflects a genuine hierarchy of values in which the wilderness experience takes precedence over the convenience of infrastructure.
