Singita Pamushana Lodge

Within the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in the southeastern lowveld of Zimbabwe, Singita Pamushana Lodge occupies a position on the bank of the Malilangwe Lake in one of Zimbabwe’s most privately managed and ecologically intact reserves, where the Big Five have been protected and allowed to recover since the reserve’s establishment in 1994. The six suites and the two-bedroom villa are built into the granite kopjes above the lake in a design of stone and timber whose organic integration with the boulder landscape gives the lodge a visual character of particular distinction within the Singita portfolio, and the views from each suite’s private pool across the lake and the surrounding bush constitute one of the most consistently beautiful wildlife-country views available in southern Africa. The Malilangwe Reserve’s management as an intensively protected private reserve gives it a wildlife density and predator-prey balance that the national parks system cannot always achieve under the constraints of public management and limited resources.

Game drives in the Malilangwe Reserve cover a landscape of mature miombo woodland, Acacia savannah, and the granite koppies that provide habitat for leopard, klipspringer, and the rare Lichtenstein’s hartebeest whose population in the reserve represents one of the species’ southernmost populations in its African range. Game walks with the lodge’s senior Trails Rangers, rhino tracking with the reserve’s black and white rhino monitoring team, and fishing for tigerfish in the Malilangwe Lake complete a programme whose diversity reflects the reserve’s range of habitats and species. The kitchen team draws on Zimbabwean seasonal produce and the Zimbabwe culinary tradition of sadza, nyama, and the smoked catfish of the Lowveld rivers.

Singita Pamushana’s contribution to the Malilangwe Conservation Trust, which manages the reserve’s anti-poaching, wildlife reintroduction, and community enterprise programmes, gives the lodge a conservation framework of considerable institutional depth and scientific rigour whose outcomes — the recovery of wildlife populations across the reserve’s 52,000 acres — are visible in the density and behaviour of the animals guests encounter during their stay.
